Toolbox Talk:

Check Tires, Tracks, and Undercarriage Before Use

June 25, 2025

Before starting up, take a walk around your equipment — the ground-level issues are just as critical as what’s in the cab.

Why It Matters:

Tires with low pressure, worn tracks, or damaged undercarriages can lead to blowouts, tip-overs, or control loss. A few minutes of inspection can prevent a major incident.

Key Points:

  • Inspect tires for proper inflation, deep cuts, cracks, or embedded objects.
  • Check tracks for excessive wear, missing lugs, or debris that can cause derailment.
  • Look at the undercarriage for oil leaks, bent components, or loose bolts.
  • Report any unusual wear or damage immediately — never assume it’s “fine for today.”
  • Use a checklist if available; don’t rely on memory.

✅ A machine is only as stable as what it’s sitting on.

Ask the Crew:

  • Are our tires or tracks ready for today’s work surface?
  • Who is responsible for inspecting the undercarriage before startup?
