It’s not enough to identify a hazard — the Competent Person must communicate it clearly and effectively.
Why It Matters:
If the crew doesn’t understand the risk, they may continue working unsafely. Clear communication prevents confusion, assumptions, and serious incidents.
Key Points:
- Use simple, direct language when sharing findings.
- Speak up during huddles, PTPs, and anytime conditions change.
- Post visible warnings or signs near the hazard when necessary.
- Encourage questions — silence doesn’t mean understanding.
✅ A silent CP is a risky CP. Speak up to keep others safe.
Ask the Crew:
- Are inspection findings being shared openly and clearly?
- Do we fully understand the CP’s concerns and instructions?
- What’s the best way for us to stay informed about new hazards?
