Access points like ladders and ramps must be kept clear — spoil can’t block them.
Why It Matters:
In an emergency, seconds count. If spoil piles are blocking exits, it delays escape and rescue efforts, putting lives at greater risk.
Key Points:
- Never place spoil near ladders, ramps, or designated access zones.
- Maintain a minimum 3-foot clearance around all egress points.
- Check exit routes at the start of every shift — and after moving material.
- Clearly mark access zones with cones, tape, or signage to prevent obstruction.
✅ Clear exits = fast rescue.
Ask the Crew:
- Are any exits currently blocked by spoil?
- Do we have clearly marked and maintained access zones?
