If something goes wrong in the trench, every second matters.
Why It Matters:
Cave-ins, gas leaks, and other emergencies require immediate action. If your exit is blocked, unstable, or too far away — you might not make it out in time.
Key Points:
- Trenches 4 feet deep or more must have multiple, unobstructed exits.
- Ladders must be spaced so no worker is more than 25 feet from one.
- Exits must be clear — no spoil piles, tools, or trip hazards.
- Never rely on climbing out over walls, pipes, or materials.
✅ Safe exit saves lives.
Ask the Crew:
- Can every crew member exit quickly right now?
- Are any of our access points blocked or unsafe?
- Have we verified our exits are still clear during the shift?
