Before any piece of heavy equipment is started, it must be thoroughly inspected. Skipping your pre-op check can lead to breakdowns, injuries, or worse.
Why It Matters:
Pre-operational inspections help identify mechanical failures, leaks, or safety hazards before they become serious problems. It’s your first line of defense for both equipment life and crew safety.
Key Points:
- Always walk around the equipment before starting — check for visible leaks, tire damage, missing guards, or debris.
- Use a checklist specific to the machine (forklift, loader, excavator, etc.).
- Test all lights, horns, alarms, brakes, and steering controls.
- Check fluid levels: oil, coolant, hydraulic, DEF (if applicable).
- Document and report any issues immediately — do not operate until cleared.
✅ If it’s not inspected, it’s not ready.
Ask the Crew:
- Did we complete and document today’s pre-op inspection?
- Is everyone familiar with the inspection checklist for their assigned equipment?
