A ladder might look fine at first glance — but hidden damage can cause it to fail when you’re halfway up.
Why It Matters:
Ladders are one of the most common tools on-site and one of the most common sources of falls. A quick inspection before each use can prevent serious injuries from broken rungs, bent rails, or missing feet.
Key Points:
- Check for cracks, splits, bends, or dents in rails and rungs.
- Make sure feet are intact and non-slip pads are in place.
- Look for oil, grease, or debris on rungs and rails — clean it before climbing.
- On extension ladders, inspect the locks and ropes for fraying or malfunction.
- Step ladders must have fully functioning spreaders that lock securely.
✅ Inspect before you climb — every time, no excuses.
Ask the Crew:
- Did we check every ladder this morning?
- Has anyone noticed damage we need to report?
