Toolbox Talk:

Inspect Fluid Levels and Look for Leaks

June 25, 2025

Fluids keep your equipment running — if they’re low, dirty, or leaking, you’re risking a breakdown or worse.

Why It Matters:

Low oil can seize an engine. Missing coolant leads to overheating. Hydraulic leaks can cause sudden loss of control. Catching these issues early can prevent equipment failure and job delays.

Key Points:

  • Check engine oil, coolant, hydraulic fluid, and fuel levels before starting the machine.
  • Use dipsticks or sight gauges as marked — don’t guess.
  • Look for leaks under and around the machine.
  • A small drip now can become a major spill later.
  • Wipe down caps and fittings after checking to spot fresh leaks easily next time.

✅ A dry machine is a dangerous machine.

Ask the Crew:

  • Do we have a daily fluid inspection routine?
  • Have we logged or reported any leaks on our gear?
