Scaffolding must be inspected before the start of each shift and after any changes, damage, or severe weather.
Why It Matters:
Even well-built scaffolds can become unsafe overnight. Rain, wind, impacts from equipment, or unauthorized modifications can compromise the structure — putting everyone at risk.
Key Points:
- A competent person must inspect all scaffold components daily.
- Look for damaged planks, loose connections, bent frames, and missing guardrails.
- Tag damaged scaffolding as “Do Not Use” and report it immediately.
- Pay close attention to the foundation — soft soil or water can shift supports.
- Re-inspect after storms, nearby equipment strikes, or if the scaffold has been altered.
✅ If it hasn’t been inspected, it shouldn’t be used.
Ask the Crew:
- When was the last scaffold inspection done?
- Do we know who to report scaffold damage to?
