Safe Scaffold Use and Access

Toolbox Talk:

Keep Access Points Clear and Unblocked

June 25, 2025

Scaffold access points must remain clear of tools, materials, or debris at all times.

Why It Matters:

Blocked ladders or stair towers slow down daily work — and worse, they can delay escape in an emergency. A cluttered access point is a hazard waiting to happen.

Key Points:

  • Never store materials or tools near scaffold access ladders or stairways.
  • Maintain at least 3 feet of clearance at all scaffold entry and exit points.
  • Ensure all access areas are stable, dry, and free of slip/trip hazards.
  • Supervisors should routinely inspect access points for obstructions.

✅ A clear path is a safe path — every shift, every scaffold.

Ask the Crew:

  • Are all of our scaffold access points clear and usable?
  • Do we need to remove anything blocking safe entry or exit?
