Cluttered scaffold platforms are a recipe for slips, trips, and falling objects.
Why It Matters:
A clean, organized platform not only prevents accidents for those on the scaffold, but also protects workers and pedestrians below from falling tools and debris. OSHA requires platforms to be kept clear to ensure safe footing and to prevent objects from falling.
Key Points:
- Immediately remove debris, loose tools, or materials that are not in use.
- Use tool lanyards and storage trays to keep gear secured.
- Never toss tools or materials across the platform — always pass by hand or use proper containers.
- Designate specific areas for material staging, away from the edge.
- Clean up at the end of every shift — don’t leave hazards for the next crew.
✅ Clean platform = safe platform.
Ask the Crew:
- Is our platform free from clutter and debris?
- Are we using proper tool storage and securing methods?
