Obstructed walkways are a leading cause of slips, trips, and falls. Stairways and ramps must remain clear at all times — no exceptions.
Why It Matters:
Construction sites are fast-paced, and materials often get set down “just for a minute” — but that’s all it takes for someone to trip or fall. Falls on stairs can cause severe back injuries, broken bones, or worse.
Key Points:
- Never store materials, tools, cords, or debris on stairs or ramps.
- Ramps must have skid-resistant surfaces and be kept dry and clean.
- Use grip tape or treads on stair surfaces that may become slippery.
- If a stairwell or ramp is blocked, mark it off and report it immediately.
- Stairways used during construction must be inspected regularly for damage or buildup.
✅ A clear path is a safe path.
Ask the Crew:
- Are any of our stairways cluttered or blocked today?
- Who’s responsible for keeping them clean on our site?
