Forklift and Aerial Lift Safety

Toolbox Talk:

Maintain Clear Visibility at All Times

June 26, 2025

Operating a forklift or aerial lift with obstructed visibility is a major safety risk — one that’s entirely preventable.

Why It Matters:

Many collisions and tip-overs happen because the operator couldn’t see clearly. Whether it’s blind spots, poor lighting, or an obstructed view due to the load, loss of visibility puts everyone at risk — especially pedestrians and ground workers.

Key Points:

  • Never drive with a load that blocks your view — operate in reverse if necessary.
  • Use spotters in tight spaces or congested areas.
  • Ensure lights, mirrors, and windshields (if equipped) are clean and functional.
  • Slow down near corners, intersections, or doorways.
  • Stay off phones or radios unless they’re being used for essential communication.

✅ If you can’t see, you shouldn’t be moving.

Ask the Crew:

  • Are there any visibility hazards on today’s route?
  • Do we need spotters for any part of this lift or transport path?
