Toolbox Talk:

Make SDSs Accessible to All Workers

June 27, 2025

SDSs must be easy to find — not locked in a drawer or buried in paperwork.

Why It Matters:

In an emergency, every second counts. OSHA requires that SDSs be readily available to all employees during each work shift. Whether you’re responding to a spill or treating a chemical burn, access to the right SDS can guide your next move and protect lives.

Key Points:

  • SDSs must be accessible without needing supervisor permission.
  • They can be stored digitally or in print, but must be clearly labeled and easy to find.
  • Keep SDSs up to date — add new ones when new products are introduced.
  • Make sure everyone, including temps and new hires, knows where SDSs are located.

✅ If you can’t access it fast, it’s not compliant.

Ask the Crew:

  • Do you know where to find the SDS for every chemical on-site?
  • Is our SDS access available to everyone on every shift?
