Forklift and Aerial Lift Safety

Toolbox Talk:

Only Certified Operators May Use Forklifts and Aerial Lifts

June 26, 2025

Untrained or unauthorized use of forklifts and aerial lifts puts everyone at risk.

Why It Matters:

These machines may seem simple to operate, but they require specific training to handle properly. One wrong move can result in crushed workers, tipped equipment, or damaged materials. OSHA requires that only trained and certified operators handle this equipment — no exceptions.

Key Points:

  • Forklift and aerial lift operators must complete formal training and evaluation.
  • Certifications must be specific to the equipment being used.
  • Operators should carry proof of training or have it documented on file.
  • Supervisors must verify qualifications before assigning equipment.

✅ Safety starts with certified hands on the controls.

Ask the Crew:

  • Are all our operators currently certified?
  • Do we have records of who’s authorized to use lifts on-site?
