Forklift and Aerial Lift Safety

Toolbox Talk:

Pre-Use Inspections Are Mandatory

June 26, 2025

Before using any forklift or aerial lift, a full inspection must be performed — every shift, no exceptions.

Why It Matters:

Mechanical failures are one of the top causes of lift-related incidents. A small hydraulic leak or worn tire can escalate into a serious injury if unnoticed. Pre-use inspections catch issues before they become hazards and are a key part of OSHA compliance.

Key Points:

  • Inspect brakes, lights, horn, steering, and tires on forklifts.
  • Check guardrails, controls, emergency stops, and harness anchor points on aerial lifts.
  • Report any damage or malfunctions immediately — do not operate until repaired.
  • Use a checklist and log all inspections as required.

✅ A 5-minute inspection can prevent a life-altering accident.

Ask the Crew:

  • Did we inspect our equipment today?
  • Are we documenting our findings and reporting defects properly?
