Toolbox Talk:

Secure Personnel Properly Inside Basket

June 22, 2025

Everyone in a man basket must wear a full-body harness and lanyard.

Why It Matters:

Fall risk exists even inside baskets. Sudden crane or lift movements, swinging, or jolts can knock workers off balance.

Key Points:

  • Lanyards must be tied off to a designated anchor inside the basket — never to nearby structures or the crane itself.
  • No climbing, sitting, or leaning on the edge of the basket.
  • Both feet must stay flat on the platform — no stepping on tools, rails, or objects to gain extra height.

Tie off. Stay inside. Stay safe.

Ask the Crew:

  • Are we tied off before the lift?
  • Who checks tie-off points?

⚠️ Real Incident Reminder:

A worker was ejected from a basket while trying to reach overhead piping. He had a harness on — but tied off to the boom instead of the basket. When the basket shifted, he swung outside and struck a beam. Always tie off inside the basket only.
