Toolbox Talk:

Unauthorized Use of Heavy Equipment is Strictly Prohibited

June 25, 2025

Only trained and certified personnel should ever operate heavy equipment — no exceptions.

Why It Matters:

Allowing untrained workers to use machinery, even for “just a second,” is a serious violation of safety protocols and puts everyone on the jobsite at risk. Unauthorized operation can lead to injury, equipment damage, or fatal incidents.

Key Points:

  • Only designated, authorized operators with proper training and qualifications may use equipment.
  • Supervisors must verify that operators are up to date on certifications.
  • Never assume someone “knows how” to operate a machine because they’ve seen it before.
  • Keys and access to equipment should be controlled — machines should not be left running and unattended.
  • If someone operates equipment without authorization, report it immediately.

✅ Skill, training, and approval are non-negotiable.

Ask the Crew:

  • Is every operator on-site properly trained and approved?
  • Do we have a clear system to control access to heavy equipment?
