Critical Lift Planning

Toolbox Talk:

Use a Written Lift Plan

June 22, 2025

Every critical lift must have a detailed written plan.

Why It Matters:

Written plans improve clarity, reduce surprises, and ensure everyone understands their role — reducing the chance of miscommunication during a complex lift.

Key Points:

  • The plan should include: load weight, rigging details, lift height, boom angle, crane capacity, and ground conditions.
  • Identify and assign responsibilities for each part of the lift — operator, signal person, riggers, and spotters.
  • Review the plan with the whole team before lifting — and make sure it’s available on-site during the operation.

✅ Write it down. Walk it through.

Ask the Crew:

  • Do we have a written lift plan today?
  • Who is responsible for signing off and reviewing it with the team?
