⛏️ Excavation and Trenching Safety

Safe Trench Entry and Egress

If a worker can’t get out quickly, they shouldn’t be in the trench at all.

OSHA requires safe access and egress for any trench deeper than 4 feet — but smart crews plan for it at every depth. These toolbox talks cover ladder placement, ramp and stair requirements, spacing rules, structural integrity of access points, and common violations. Use them to train workers on how to safely enter and exit trenches without creating new hazards.

Lead safety meetings with toolbox talks on trench entry/egress requirements, OSHA 1926.651(c) compliance, and best practices for getting in and out of excavations safely.
